This project has been inspired by a recipe book which was found in a house in Worfield, Shropshire. It is a book written by Alice Hurt of Alderwasley Hall, Derbyshire and contains wonderful recipes. Recipes for Derbyshire Oatcakes, Hard Biscuits and other delicious items sit side by side with tips on clearing a room of flies and getting oil stains out of stone.
There are also lists of potential servants and inventories of linen. For a glimpse into Victorian life amongst the upper classes the book is well worth looking at. So here is Alice Hurt's book, a Victorian treasure. please feel free to add to this project.
