Christmas is nearly upon us in the UK and for many children it will be a time of getting new toys. Some will even have a new bike. Now as far as I know no-one has an innate ability to ride a bike. I learned the skill slowly with my father steadying the bike and eventually letting go. I wobbled a bit, but miraculously stayed upright for a short while before painfully crashing to the ground. Then there was a time when I could get on the bike and ride it unaided but getting off was always a crash landing.
'If a job's worth doing it's worth doing badly to start with,' was the rather surprising twist I once heard on the motto 'If a job's worth doing it's worth doing well.' Our belief that instant success is possible can be paralysing. 'Other people can ride a bicycle, why can't I?' can stop us actually trying.
ShareHistory is a new toy. It is different and we did not come with an innate ability to use it. The site challenges what we do with our history whether we keep it to ourselves or share it for the benefit of all? If our history should be shared then we need to learn how to do it. Learning to upload may seem easy to some and impossible to others but thankfully no-one is looking at how good or otherwise we are. Let's just do it, badly perhaps at first, until sharing our history becomes a habit.
Happy Christmas!
